Food Review: Yakiniku-GO At Seletar Mall | Affordable and Quality Japanese Yakiniku In Seng Kang

The Place Located at Seng Kang’s Seletar Mall, the latest restaurant by RE&S Yakiniku-GO will be the group’s first yakiniku concept and their seventy-sixth restaurant in Singapore. The brand dishes out affordable yet quality meats for diners to enjoy in an authentic Japanese and fuss-free dinner.

No reservations are accepted at Yakiniku-GO, so be prepared to queue during peak meal hours, or head down early if your schedule permits. The space is rather large though, and with meals coming mainly in sets, so hopefully diners will not be over-staying once they are done grilling up all their meats.

The Food Expect lots of beef, and of course other meats including lamb, chicken and seafood on the menu. No pork at Yakinku-GO, making it ideal for us to invite friends from across the island to join in for the grill feast! The pork-free menu offers both sets and à la carte offerings, with beef selections such as the popular Jyo Karubi, Harami, Ribeye Steak, Beef Tongue, Kainomi and Wagyu Chuck Short Ribs. Non-beef options include chicken, lamb leg, seafood Hoiru Yaki (baked in foil) and salmon. Super value sets begin from S$9.80, and upwards to just S$26.80! Each set also comes with a bowl of fluffy Japanese rice, a choice of kimchi or mini salad, and clear seaweed soup.

The Signature Yakiniku-GO Set (S$15.80 for half steak, S$20.80 for full steak) boasts three popular cuts of Beef, including the Short Plate, Ribeye Steak and Beef Tongue. I enjoyed the Ribeye Steak best, getting it easily done medium-rare with the meat being a thicker cut.

For sauces, there are four types of sauces prepared in-house by a Japanese chef, including the House Special Yakiniku Tare, Spicy Yakiniku Tare, Miso Tare and Negi Shio Tare. My favourite of the lot is the white coloured Negi Shio Tare sauce, which is citrusy in taste and is made with Japanese leek and four types of citrusy juices. This sauce basically goes well with every type of meat I had, including the chicken meat!

If you like a mix of meats, the Value Treat Set (S$19.80 for 300g) gets you a mix of Beef Short Plate, Beef Flap Meat and Chicken. Surprisingly the chicken gets grilled to perfection easily with the electric grills.

Other sets my fellow diners had include the Double Karubi Set (S$20.80 for 200g) and the DIY Niku Sushi Set (S$6.80). The latter asks for diners to do your own grilled beef sushi using the items included on the set such as the Boneless Short Rib, Sushi Rice, Kimchi, Sesame Seed, Seaweed and Spring Onion.

You can order ala-carte items too, including the priced Wagyu Tokujou Karubi (S$11.80 for 50g), or the Manzoku Platter (S$17.80) which will include 5 different kinds of beef cuts, Beef Tongue, Chicken and Lamb.

If you are keen on some seafood, the Seafood Hoiru Yaki (S$12.80) should be your go-to dish. With Scallops, Prawns and Squid cooked in a buttery broth, you are in for a treat.

Rants The restaurant promises a smoke-free, odour-free dining experience, but I would not go as far to guarantee that. And again, if you have not read it earlier, a friendly reminder that no reservation is accepted here.

Will I Return Again? For the affordability and the quality of the meats I had today, a return to Yakiniku-GO is just but a matter of time.
